Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training

As of July 1, 2014, Ontario employers have to ensure that all workers and supervisors have completed a basic occupational health and safety awareness training program. Ontario Regulation 297/13 mandates basic safety awareness training for all workers.

This course explains the responsibilities of a worker as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as how those responsibilities directly relate to the health and safety of fellow workers. While adhering to the requirements outlined in the Ministry of Labour’s Worker Awareness workbook, this course discusses the following topics from O. Reg. 297/13:

  • The duties and rights of workers under the Act
  • The duties of employers and supervisors under the Act
  • The roles of health and safety reps and joint health and safety committees under the Act
  • The roles of the Ministry, the WSIB and entities designated under section 22.5 of the Act
  • Common workplace hazards
  • The requirements set out in Regulation 860 (WHMIS) with respect to information and instruction
  • Occupational illness, including latency
